"Yesterday it all seemed normal. Today, everything seemed the same, but it wasn't."

Rating: 4/5

Director: Philip Kaufman

Starring: Donald Sutherland (Matthew: a vindictive but sexy health inspector), Brooke Adams (Elizabeth: an understandably freaked-out scientist).

Premise: Elizabeth and her loving hubby are gifted a strange new plant. The next morning, he's acting off - silent, robotic, cold. And it looks like he's not the only one. Elizabeth decides to investigate with her co-worker at the Health Department, our dashing young President Snow (Matthew).

Recommend:  For people who find true crime relaxing. A genuinely horrifying concept that is unveiled to the viewer with a gentle hand. Consistent and captivating with a tendency toward ickiness rather than blood. The 'will-they-won't-they' dynamic between Elizabeth and Matthew offers a pleasantly juvenile distraction from a plot that takes itself seriously. This one will stick with you. Shoutout to the dog and young Jeff Goldblum.

In the vein of: Little Shop of Horrors (1986), Alien (1979), Soylent Green (1973).

Mood: Fruit fly infestation.
